On Thursday, December 14th, The 6th Annual Heroes and Helpers at Target brought some Christmas cheer to 15 small children and their families. 15 Yakima Police Officers and 15 local children took part in Target’s annual event that brings together children in need to shop with an officer. Target donated $50 gift cards to each child, with the officers dipping into their own pockets to cover additional costs. Many of the kids were picked by school resource officers and were able to shop for clothes, school supplies, and even toys. The kids not only bought presents for themselves, but many bought presents for parents and or siblings. The event not only brought smiles to the children, but it also brought smiles to the police officers, many of whom were involved for the first time in their law enforcement career.
