Yakima Police Investigating Suspicious Death

On Monday, August 30th at about 11:15 am Yakima police officers responded to the 200 block of South Naches Avenue regarding a report of a suspicious death. Officers arrived and found a 51-year-old female deceased in her bedroom. The female had suspicious marks on her body that led officers to believe the woman did not die of natural causes.

Detectives from the Yakima Police Department (YPD) Major Crimes Unit and Special Assault Unit arrived and took over the investigation.

“The death of an otherwise healthy female is suspicious. Evidence gathered at the scene leads police to believe her death may have been caused by another person,” YPD Captain Jay Seely said.

An autopsy of the woman’s body is tentatively scheduled in King County for Wednesday or Thursday.

“We are still in the process of locating and interviewing everyone that was with this woman just prior to her death,” said Seely.

Anyone with information that may be relevant to this case is urged to contact the YPD at (509) 575-6200 or by calling 9-1-1.
