Yakima Police Department K-9 Unit Gets Huge Donation

On Wednesday, July 12th, 2018,  a check for $23,500 was presented to the Yakima Police Department K-9 Unit at the Yakima Valley Pippins game at Yakima County Stadium. The check was presented by Team Yakima Strong, which raised the money during the 9K4K9 Fun Run and Walk, which was held in May. Last year the organization raised over $13,000, and that money was used to purchase YPD’s new K-9 Trex. Trex is pictured with his handler, Yakima Police Officer Mark Mc Kinney.  Lexi Mitchell from Yakima Strong is pictured below holding the check along with Yakima Police Captain Gary Jones, Lt. Shawn Boyle and Officer Mckinney. The money donated this year will go into the K-9 Unit fund for training and for another dog in the future. Mitchell spearheaded the effort with the help of many local businesses including Hub International, Zirkle Fruit, Tree Top, The Range, HLA Engineers, Home Street Bank, McDonald’s and Listen Up coaching. Thank you to everyone who made this incredible fundraiser possible.
