Yakima Man Shot to Death in the 400 Block of Chestnut

On Saturday, October 30th at about 5:30 am, a male called 9-1-1 and said subjects in a car shot at him and his friend.  The man reported that his friend had been shot in the area of the 400 block of West Chestnut Avenue.

Patrol officers located an unconscious 34-year-old Yakima resident in the west alley of 4th Avenue and Chestnut Avenue who had been shot in the leg. Officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Yakima Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Gang Unit were called to the scene. Detectives located video surveillance of the incident from nearby businesses.

“At this point it’s unknown if this homicide is gang related,” Yakima Police Captain Jay Seely said. “Based on preliminary information, there is a likelihood of a gang nexus, which is why I called detectives from the Gang Unit to assist the Major Crimes Unit,” said Seely.
