Officers of the Yakima Police Department investigated two serious collisions that occurred yesterday, May 2.
The first collision occurred at 12:15 pm at the intersection of S 3rd St and E Spruce St. A small sedan was driving west on E Spruce St and failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign. The sedan pulled out in front of a larger pickup and a T-bone type impact occurred. The driver of the sedan was seriously injured as a result and was sent to Harborview Medical Center for advanced treatment. We do not suspect that speed or alcohol/drugs were factors in the collision.
The second collision happened around 8:00 pm at the intersection of E Maple St and S 8th St. A small dirt bike, ridden by an adult that was not wearing a helmet, was driving west on E Maple St. A midsized sedan was driving east on E Maple St and turning north on 8th St. The sedan failed to yield the right of way and struck the dirt bike and rider. The rider sustained severe head injuries from striking the roadway after he was ejected from the dirt bike. He was sent to Harborview Medical Center for advanced treatment, but succumbed to his injuries earlier today.
Police do not suspect that speed or alcohol/drugs were factors of the collision. The driver of the sedan will be issued infractions (tickets) for his involvement in the collision.
