Detectives from the Yakima Police Department’s Gang and Major Crimes Units are searching for two people they believe were behind Tuesday morning’s 8th homicide in the city. Three people were shot around 12:54 a.m. in the Rocky Mart mini-mart parking lot at 1003 W. Nob Hill Blvd, Captain Jay Seely said.
The investigation revealed around 12:54 a.m., the 32-year-old victim was working on his vehicle tire in the Rocky Mart parking lot, along with a 24-year-old homeless man and 33-year-old store clerk when two assailants approached them on foot from the street. Without warning both subjects began shooting at the group, striking all three, before fleeing on foot. Video surveillance captured the shooting, Captain Jay Seely, said.
The 32-year-old Yakima man was transported to Memorial hospital where he died in surgery. The 24-year-old and 33-year-old store clerk were also shot, but were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.
“We believe this homicide is gang related. At this point, we don’t believe the store clerk or the homeless gentleman were the intended target,” Seely said.
