On Friday July 9th, the Yakima Police Department’s K-9 Unit was presented a check for $13,000 by Leadership Yakima. The presentation was made at Yakima County Stadium before a Yakima Valley Pippins game. The money was raised by leadership Yakima through a fun run and walk fundraiser held at Franklin Park in June. Yakima Police Sergeant Tory Adams, who oversees the unit, was on hand to receive the check along with Officer Mark McKinney and his K-9 partner Dexter, Officer Rob Walters and his K-9 partner Kovah and Officer Jim Yates, whose K-9 Sabre recently retired. The money will be used for training and possibly toward the purchase of a new dog. Prior to the presentation the public got a chance to meet the officers and their partners.
