A 71-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday evening outside his house located in the 1000 block of South 8th Street.
Yakima police responded to reports of multiple shots heard in the area of the man’s house at about 7:40 pm Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the driveway of the home with apparent gunshot wounds to his stomach. Lifesaving measures were not effective, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers learned a dark color sedan pulled into the victim’s driveway at about 7:40 pm Wednesday. The victim exited his residence and approached the car. An unknown person in the vehicle shot the victim while he stood at the driver’s side of the car. The vehicle then fled the area.
Detectives from the Yakima Police Department Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives will be canvassing the area today looking for video evidence of the incident and the vehicle involved in this homicide.
The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. An autopsy of the victim has not yet been scheduled.
