Yakima police are asking for help from the community in locating the driver and passengers in a van who may have witnessed a fatal collision on Fair Avenue this past Saturday.
At about 7:55 pm on Saturday, October 2nd, Yakima police officers responded to the 500 block of Fair Avenue to a report of a motorcycle-pedestrian collision. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian, 58-year-old Timothy Dewitt of Yakima, unresponsive in the roadway. Officers immediately began CPR and other first aid measures until paramedics could arrive.
Dewitt was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The motorcycle rider, a 27-year-old Toppenish man, told police he was southbound on Fair Avenue at Maple Street and was passing two cars in the left turn storage lane when he struck Dewitt. The motorcycle rider suffered minor injuries.
We are asking for help from the community as we investigate this collision,” said Yakima Police Captain Jay Seely. “The motorcyclist passed a white, fifteen-passenger van just prior to the collision. We need the occupants of that van or anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Yakima Police Officer Jim Yates at 575-6246,” said Seely.
An autopsy had yet to be scheduled as of the time this press release was issued.
