A news conference will be held today, Thursday, August 5th concerning the death of Yakima Police Department Sergeant Joe Deccio while he was on duty this past Tuesday.
The news conference will begin at 1:00 pm and will take place near the entrance of the Richard A. Zais Law & Justice Center located at 200 South 2nd Street.
During the news conference, Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray will talk about how Sergeant Deccio’s family and members of the Yakima Police Department are coping with Sergeant Deccio’s death. Chief Murray will also discuss how and where people can make contributions to Sergeant Deccio’s family if they want to.
Sergeant Deccio experienced a significant medical episode around 2:00 pm on Tuesday while he was on duty. He was taken to Yakima Valley Memoria Hospital where lifesaving efforts were made for about four hours. Sergeant Deccio passed away at about 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
