The name of a 71-year-old man who was shot and killed Wednesday evening outside his house located in the 1000 block of South 8th Street has been released after Yakima police notified the victim’s family.
The victim of the shooting is Gerald Moore.
Yakima police responded to reports of multiple shots heard in the area of Moore’s house at about 7:40 pm Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found Moore lying in the driveway of the home with apparent gunshot wounds to his stomach. Lifesaving measures were not effective, and Moore was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers learned a dark color sedan pulled into Moore’s driveway at about 7:40 pm Wednesday. Moore exited his residence and approached the car. An unknown person in the vehicle shot Moore while he stood at the driver’s side of the car. The vehicle then fled the area.
Detectives from the Yakima Police Department Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate this homicide.
