Memorial Service to Take Place Thursday for YPD Sergeant Joe Deccio

A community memorial service for Yakima Police Sergeant Joe Deccio, who died this past Tuesday while he was on duty, has been scheduled for Thursday, August 12th at 11:00 am at the Yakima Valley SunDome.  The public and media are invited to attend the memorial service.

“The memorial service is a way for all of us as a community to honor the life of Sergeant Joe Deccio,” said Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray.  “Joe was an extraordinary husband and father and was a truly outstanding law enforcement professional.  Next Thursday’s memorial service will provide an opportunity to celebrate the positive impact Joe had on others in our community and to pay tribute to his life of service,” said Chief Murray.

Thursday’s memorial service will be livestreamed on the Yakima Police Department YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/yakimapolicedepartment.

At a news conference yesterday, Chief Murray announced that a memorial fund has been established for Sergeant Deccio’s family.

The account, which has been set up at HomeStreet Bank, is now able to accept donations.

Zais Law & Justice Center.  He was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital where lifesaving efforts were made for about four hours.  Sergeant Deccio passed away at about 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
