At a news conference earlier today, Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray discussed the death of Yakima Police Sergeant Joe Deccio, who passed away while on duty this past Tuesday.
In addition to discussing how the family of Sergeant Deccio and Yakima Police Department staff members are coping as well as some of the details surrounding Sergeant Deccio’s death, Chief Murray announced that a memorial fund was being established for Sergeant Deccio’s family.

Sergeant Deccio experienced a significant medical episode around 2:00 pm on Tuesday while he was on duty. He was taken to Yakima Valley Memoria Hospital where lifesaving efforts were made for about four hours. Sergeant Deccio passed away at about 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
