Man Shot in Walmart Parking Lot in Early January Dies in Hospital

A man who was shot in the parking lot of the East Yakima Walmart earlier this month died yesterday, January 24th, at a Seattle hospital as a result of gunshot injuries he suffered during the incident.

Officials at Harborview Medical Center informed the Yakima Police Department on Monday of the death of 31-year-old Jordan A. Besel, who had been transported to the Seattle hospital after he was shot in the chest on January 6th in the Walmart parking lot (1600 East Chestnut Avenue).

Besel’s shooting is now considered a homicide.

After the shooting, witnesses reported a black Chevrolet truck left the parking lot.  Yakima police officers located the truck and its three occupants a short time later in the parking lot of the Yakima Target store.

All three of the subjects in the truck told police Besel attempted to rob them and pointed a gun at them.  One of the subjects in the truck, a 37-year-old man, told police he shot Besel.

A decision whether any charges will be filed in the case is pending.
