Yakima police responded to a report of a man having been shot at about 9:25 pm Wednesday night in the 1600 block of East Race Street. When police arrived on scene, they found 30-year-old Cesar Salgado-Martinez had been shot in the abdomen during what he and witnesses described as a robbery attempt.
Salgado-Martinez was taken to a local hospital for treatment. At last report, Salgado-Martinez was in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
Witnesses told police Salgado-Martinez and several friends were outside a house when they were approached by a man who pointed a gun at the group and demanded money. The man was not given any money. He then allegedly shot Salgado-Martinez one time in the abdomen and fled. Police searched the immediate area but did not locate the man.
No suspect(s) in the incident have been identified yet. Yakima police continue to investigate the incident.
