The Yakima Police Department (“YPD”) would like to honor newly retired K-9 “Sabre” and we would like to say thank you for his years of service to the community. Sabre began with Yakima Police Officer Jim Yates in January 2009 when he was just 12 months old and he retired January 1, 2017. He had a great career with YPD assisting with and locating nearly 150 persons, locating dozens of articles of evidence to include locating over two dozen guns that suspects had used during violent crimes they discarded prior to police contact. Sabre will enjoy his retirement with Officer Yates and his family but he will be greatly missed on the streets of Yakima. Sabre was imported from the Czech Republic in December 2008. Thank you Sabre for a job well done and enjoy your retirement.
