On Tuesday, September 28th at about 9:45 pm, Yakima police responded to the 300 block of North 41st Avenue after multiple 9-1-1 callers reported 12 to 15 shots fired and a gunshot victim. The victim was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial hospital by private vehicle prior to the arrival of police officers.
The18-year-old Yakima man was in his driveway working on his car when a silver sedan stopped in front of his driveway and the occupants began shooting, according to witnesses.
Patrol officers recovered several shell casings from two weapons at the scene. The victim sustained serval non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
“We believe this shooting is gang related because the victim is a documented gang member,” Yakima Police Captain Jay Seely said.
The case has been turned over to the Yakima Police Department’s Gang Unit, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force has been notified.
