Domestic Violence Incident

On March 24th shortly after 5:00 pm, Yakima police officers responded to the area of 16th Avenue and West Nob Hill Boulevard regarding a domestic violence incident. Initial reports indicated that a female victim had sustained serious injuries from an assault involving the use of a firearm.

When Yakima Police Department (YPD) officers arrived, they confirmed that there was probable cause for the arrest of a 40-year-old male, who was known to the victim, concerning charges of kidnap 1st degree and assault 1st degree, domestic violence. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

At about 5:40 pm, a YPD officer found the suspect in this incident driving in the northeast area of Yakima. YPD officers and multiple assisting agencies were then led on a pursuit that went through Selah and ended just outside Naches, where the suspect died of self-inflicted injuries.

YPD’s Special Assault Unit is investigating the domestic violence portion of this incident, while the Internal Affairs-Force Investigation Unit investigates the pursuit and events at the conclusion of this incident.
