Community Invited to Join in Yakima Police Awards Ceremony

The Yakima Police Department (YPD) is inviting community members to be part of its annual awards ceremony that will honor outstanding service by current YPD staff and recent retirees.

The YPD Annual Awards Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 18th beginning at

2:00 pm at Yakima Foursquare Church, located at 700 North 40th Avenue.  Community members and media are welcome to attend.

During the ceremony, tribute will be paid to recent YPD retirees.  YPD life-saving awards, the YPD Officer of the Year Award, the Non-Commissioned Employee of the Year Award, and other honors will be presented.

“The Yakima Police Department is well regarded as an exceptional, highly-professional law enforcement agency,” said Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray.  “That reputation has been well earned thanks to the tremendous efforts of the department’s quality employees.  The annual awards ceremony provides the opportunity for the department and the community to recognize and celebrate the work of those employees,” said Murray.

Y-PAC, the City’s government access cable channel, will record the ceremony.  The recording of the ceremony will be replayed several times on Y-PAC (Spectrum Cable channel 194) and will be available to be viewed on the City of Yakima website.  Links to the recording of the ceremony will also be posted on the City’s various social media platforms.
