In July of 2017 retired Yakima Police K-9 Kazan passed away at the age of 13. The Belgian Malinois was Detective Kevin Lee’s partner for seven years before he retired as a drug dog in 2013. This week Detective Lee received quite a surprise! A gorgeous portrait of Kazan was delivered to the Yakima Police Department. The portrait was done by artist Patrick R. Beard from Frankfort, Indiana and was paid for 100 percent by donations through Project K-9 Hero. Project K-9 is an organization founded by former Yakima Police Officer Jason Johnson.
